Hustings so far

I’m sure there will be more hustings than this but in the interests of letting people pop these dates in their diary right now here’s the hustings we know about so far. please do let us know if you’re organising a hustings as we’ll be happy to help you advertise it.

These hustings are for all the candidates for the position of leader and all members can attend.

There won’t be hustings in every town so if you want to attend one the best advice is to find the nearest one to you and get along. There will be video and the like to watch, but it’s not the same thing as asking your own question and looking the candidates in the whites of their eyes.

Friday, July 13th

  • London

7 pm, Development House, Leonard St. EC2a 4LT (near Old Street tube)

Saturday, July 14th

  • Reading

11 am, Friends Meeting House, 2 Church St. RG1 2SB

  • Bristol

2 pm, venue tbc. Earlier in the same venue will be the hustings for the South West European selection.

  • Cardiff (provisional)

6 pm, venue tbc

Saturday, July 21st

  • Birmingham (provisional)

We know people are thinking of organising this as it coincides with GPRC (the regional council which has quarterly meetings round the country). We’ll let you know the details if/when it’s confirmed.

August 10th – 12th

  • Little Green Gathering

We hear there is to be some sort of hustings at the Little Green Gathering, however we see from the website that they have sold all the available tickets to the event – which is good for them, but unlucky for hustings junkies who’ll have to grab an earlier chance to see the candidates.

There will also be a hustings on 15th July, 12.45-2pm at Brighton Town Hall (at the end of the Association of Green Councillors Conference). All welcome.

  2. Caroline Allen to stand for Green Deputy Leader!

The Bristol hustings venue is the large conference room on the 2nd floor of the Youth Hostel, 14 Narrow Quay, Bristol, which is in the heart of the city centre, on the waterside. I understand that the starting time is 2.30pm, not 2p.m. (I am organising the S.W. European candidates hustings that is taking place in the morning but am not directly involved in the leader hustings, though will be attending).

  4. The Birmingham hustings is now definitely happening, and will be at 3pm on Saturday 21st July in the Moseley Exchange.

  5. I have just looked up the train times, and the hustings timings for Reading to Bristol are cutting it a bit fine when you consider walking time to the venue. Seems to me we will be leaving before the end of one and getting there late for the other.

Can Bristol be sheduled a little later? or maybe Reading a little earlier?

What time can you all arrive in Bristol? I think the venue is booked until 5pm, but might be able to make that slightly later (I can check this with Bristol Green Party). And what time do you need to leave for Cardiff to arrive there on time?

  7. Assuming Reading starts at 11.30, Bristol starts at 2.30 and Cardiff 6.00 (according to latest emails)

Depart Reading 12.57 . Arrive Bristol 14.15. Leave Bristol 16.54 arrive Cardiff 17.43.

This makes the Reading husting quite short. However, a big thank you to Bristol and Cardiff for sending people to meet us at the station. This cuts down room for error. I hope something similar can be arringed for Reading

  8. Hi Jim and Matt,
Little Green Gathering still has tickets (weekend and day) available – see our actual website at The Leader and Deputy leader hustings are on Sunday afternoon (12th August) and open to all – even those too mean to buy a ticket! We are expecting a large crowd at the hustings, maybe twice the number who attended the one I went to in Brighton this Sunday. Which was very well run BTW. Cllr Sam White from Reading will chair the event.
In peace, Tim Dawes, for LGG

  10. Thanks Phil – we have this in our more recent update here –

Should be good, and very clever combining it with an action day :)
